Darwin recently played host to the annual meeting of the Australian Marine Sciences Association (AMSA), the peak body representing some 700 marine scientists across the nation. While the ~270 talks spanned a range of disciplines and subject matter, the value and need for more integrated social and economic management of our marine resources was a common theme.
Australia’s marine science community has united behind the National Marine Science Plan, which was launched on 11th August by the Honourable Ian Macfarlane, Minister for Industry and Science.
AMSA President Dr Tim Lynch said “AMSA welcomes the National Marine Science Plan, which sets the agenda to advance marine sciences in Australia. AMSA applauds the leadership taken by the National Marine Science Committee under the Chair of John Gunn to deliver this important plan.”
