1994 AMSA Silver Jubilee Award Winner

Professor Bryan Womersley

Professor Bryan Womersley

Bryan Womersley has devoted his career to the taxonomy and systematics of marine algae and their ecology. Although he has worked on several continents and in the tropical Pacific, his major contribution has been the description, documentation and ecological study of the marine algal flora of southern Australia.

His work has been widely recognised. He has promoted phycological research and marine environmental management by his teaching at all levels, by his advisory and editorial contributions and through his leadership in scientific societies, including AMSA.

Emeritus Professor Womersley is continuing work on his Marine Benthic Flora of Southern Australia. As each new volume appears (there are three so far) it instantly becomes an indispensable tool: the whole will stand as a truly monumental contribution to marine science.
